Horticulture Science (Vegetable Science)

Background

The Department of Horticulture was established in 2013 with five different courses in B. Sc. (Ag.), Production Technology of Vegetables, Production Technology of fruits, Production Technology of Flowers, Production technology of Spices, Aromatic, Medicinal and Plantation Crops, and Post-harvest Management and Value Addition of Fruits and Vegetables. The objective to establish the department was to initiate education and training in horticulture courses i.e., vocational training, star program for farmers etc., to conduct need based research for the development of horticulture in Odisha and to disseminate the technology for growing horticultural crops and post harvest management of horticultural produce. The department possess a well-equipped laboratory for under-graduate students.

Forensic science

About Department

School of Forensic Sciences under Centurion University of Technology and Management aims at creating much required experts in the field of investigative science with the application of advanced scientific techniques. The aim of the course is to develop a platform wherein various scientific means and methods are applied so that social justice can be brought about within our society.

It is not a hidden fact that the number of criminal cases over the world are on the rise and in most of these cases justice gets delayed due to lack of proper forensic proofs. One of the major causes is shortage of adequate number of forensic experts. School of Forensic Science is the one and only of its kind in eastern India to create young, dynamic, technically efficient experts in the field of investigative science. The School has entered into an academic collaboration with Gujarat Forensic Science University, the first and only university across the world dedicated to forensic science to provide quality education and infrastructure to its students with significant responsibility.

Objective:

Our aim is to be a distinguished centre of excellence aiming to create a peaceful society by imparting need based quality forensic Science education/Training to the Prospective students and allied professionals and to make the institute an inclusive centre of excellence for forensic education, research and Training services by intensifying criminal investigation process, thereby strengthening justice delivery system. We aspire to be an institution dedicated to touch human lives with the aim of intensifying the field of investigative sciences to ensure a diminished rate of criminal record in the society by strengthening the justice delivery system leading towards to prosperity, integrity and peace.

B.Sc. Forensic Sciences (3 Year):

It is a three year undergraduate program. It is a crime and laboratory based profession. Expertise of experts are used in aiding justice delivery system. This programmes helps in developing skill and interest in the field of forensic science from an undergraduate level.

M.Sc. Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics (2 year):

It is a two year postgraduate program. With the rapid expansion of the internet, cyber-crime and malicious software deployments are on the increase. There is a need for security professionals who can protect assessed and information by securing networks and computer systems. The master of cybersecurity and digital forensic develops skills in discovering and recording digital forensic evidence of crimes and malicious behaviour by extracting data from networks, hard drives, cell phones and other digital devices.

M.Sc. Forensic Sciences (2 year):

It is a two year postgraduate program which applies the disciplines of science to answer questions of legal interest. One needs to study the various principles and theories that are applicable in forensic science. The program is divided into four semesters where last semester comprises of dissertation. Specialization subjects in M.Sc. Forensic Sciences:

Forensic Biology(Serology and DNA Division):

BSc Biology (Botany and Zoology) Biochem / Microbio / Biotech/ B.Pharm students are eligible for this course. Forensic Biology is again subdivided into Biology, Serology and DNA Division. In recent years forensic biology has emerged as one of the most important branches of forensic sciences. Latest development in DNA Profiling has revolutionized the forensic science to achieve speedy and precise investigation process.

Forensic Chemistry (Toxicology):

BSc Chemistry and Biochemistry/ B.Pharm. students are eligible for this course. Forensic Chemistry and Forensic Toxicology deals with medico legal cases involving explosives, fire, Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. and many more poisons. This is core area of forensic investigation, as majority of cases are reported due to use/effect/exposure to chemical substances. The examination of such evidences is based on skilled chemical and instrumental analysis.

Forensic Physics (Ballistics):

BSc Physics students are eligible for this course. A number of areas in physics is of key importance to scientific investigation starting from traditional aspects of examination and identification of glass, soil, Paint, tyre marks, tool marks to modern techniques involved in respective areas such as integrated ballistics identification system, comparison microscope the collisions of vehicles., the physics of explosions, crime scene photography and videography, blood stain patterns analysis, voice analysis, audio, audio video tape authentication and three dimensional crime scene scanning and reconstruction.

Forensic Questioned documents and Finger Prints:

BSc any branch (Physics/Chemistry/Biology/Maths) students are eligible for this course. The discipline of forensic document examination is frequently associated with white collar crimes related to hand writing and signature frauds, forgery in cheques, wills or any legal deeds, currency, passport, visa, credit or debit card. Armed with sophisticated technology, forensic document examiners can peer into visible and invisible marks on a document to extract an abundance of details that may verify authenticity or provide additional information crucial to the investigation.

It is the first ever university department to have academic collaboration with Gujurat forensic Sciences University, which is the world’s only university dedicated to Forensic Science Programs by which students are able to access to world class laboratory facilities equipped with high end sophisticated instruments and gain a real-time skill and knowledge from the expertise of the area.

Optometry

About Department

Eyesight is one of our most vital senses, and our eyes are some of the most intricate organs in our body. Additionally, sight impairments are the most common physical ailments, and there is a growing array of means for correcting theses problems. These facts explain why an entire scientific field is dedicated to the study of eyesight, eye functionality and the diagnosis and treatment of sight impairments – the field of Optometry.
Optometry is an interdisciplinary science involving physics, chemistry and optics (including advanced laser technologies), alongside biology, anatomy, pharmacology and even psychology. The study Program at the Department of Optometry at Bar-Ilan University includes the examination of scientific, biological and clinical aspects of the human body, with emphasis on eye functions in babies, children, adults and seniors.
Optometry is a highly sought-after profession in hospitals, clinics, and different health institutions. Additionally, graduates can launch a career in Optometric research, an innovative field of great commercial and medical potential.

  • SoPAHS and Gram Tarang Employment Training Services (GTETS) in CUTM Bhubaneswar have jointly implemented 3 CSR projects in partnership with Wipro GE Healthcare Institute (GEHCI), SBI Foundation Grant (SBIFG) and Union Bank of India Foundation Grant (UBIFG).
  • A pilot project “Up-skilling & Re-skilling of ANMs in Odisha” for Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) funded by Odisha Skill Development Authority, Govt. of Odisha has been also carried out by SoPAHS and GTETS.
  • SoPAHS is engaged in community based public health & nutrition research projects aligning to UN Sustainable Development Goals 2 & 3 and Situational assessment of Paramedical and Allied Health Science scenario in 3 states (Odisha, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) aligning to health sector industry workforce needs through active participation of students and faculty.
  • SoPAHS and GTETS in CUTM Bhubaneswar, along with GE Health care have also successfully trained students for OTAT technician course.
  • SoPAHS and GTETS with HPCL sponsored skill development training have trained 50 hearing impaired students in MLT course.
  • SoPAHS coordinates, supports and creates interactive opportunities for its students with international University students through University Exchange programs on the paramedical and allied health science.
  • SoPAHS is also providing skill courses to the University students to blend in the culture of interdisciplinary learning into the curriculum.

Medical Radiation Technology

About Department

Bachelor of Science in Medical Radiation Technology is a three year graduate programme. Medical Radiography and Imaging is the health profession concerned with the direct administration of radiation, primarily x-rays, in disease diagnosis and injury assessment. Medical imaging studies have been a cornerstone in medical diagnosis for decades; however, technological advances and the addition of new imaging modalities now place medical imaging among the most dynamic, expanding and high demand fields in clinical medicine.

Medical Imaging clinical practice includes: general radiography such as orthopedics, pediatrics and mammography, vascular imaging, cardiac catheterization studies, computerized tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging. Medical imaging professionals are employed in medical centers, community and private hospitals, clinics, and physicians’ offices.

Medical Laboratory Technology

About Department

Medical Laboratory Technology also called Clinical laboratory science is an allied health profession which is concerned with the diagnosis and prevention of disease through the use of clinical laboratory tests. These tests help doctors to detect, diagnose and treat diseases.

A Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) also referred to as a medical technologist, a clinical scientist, or clinical laboratory technologist do these tests by analyzing body fluids, tissues, blood typing, microorganism screening, chemical analyses, cell counts of human body etc. They play an important role in collecting the information’s needed, sampling, testing, reporting and documentation of these investigations.

They determine the presence, extent or absence of disease and provide data needed to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment. M.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology is a four semester program to impart in-depth knowledge of General and Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Clinical Pathology, Histo & Cytopathology, Immunology, Medical and Diagnositc Microbiology, Genetics & molecular cell biology and their applications in three semesters.

Fourth semester will be fully internship and research project leading to a dissertation. There is a great scope for the Medical Laboratory Technology students mainly include are: Diagnostics, Research & Development, Various Projects, Analysis & Testing, Various laboratories, Academics, and also opportunities in abroad. Most Medical Laboratory Scientists are generalists, skilled in all areas of the clinical laboratory.

However some are specialists, qualified by unique undergraduate education or additional training to perform more complex analyses than usual within a specific field. Specialties include clinical biochemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology, immunology, immunohematology (blood bank), histopathology cytopathology, genetics, cytogenetic.

Scope:

After completion of the course one can opt for career in-

  • Hospital and individual laboratories as Clinical technologist/Lab managers.
  • Research and development laboratories as a research scholar /Scientist
  • In various biotechnological industries as research assistant/Fellow
  • As a medical laboratory Scientist in abroad hospitals and laboratories
  • ISO and NABL certified laboratories as senior technologist.
  • Teaching jobs in allied health colleges
  • Self sufficient individuals for employment. (Self employment)
Eligibility for Admissions: 

Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Life Science/ Agriculture/ Pharmacy/ Veterinary /Medicine (MBBS/BDS)

Internship:

A candidate will have to undergo internship for a period of six calendar months in a hospital/Diagnostics Centre /Research Institution  equipped with modern laboratory facility , which fulfills the norms decided by the University.  Dissertation will be compulsory to all students. Students will carry out dissertation work individually or in the group of not more than three students. The format for dissertation/Internship report will be similar to the research thesis style; incorporating chapters on: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion and References / Bibliography. The dissertation will be submitted in a typewritten and bound form.

Degree:

On successful completion of three year programme, the candidate will be awarded with “Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology (M.Sc.-MLT)” from Centurion University.

About Department

The School of Media and Communications, under the auspices of the Institute of Knowledge Societies at Centurion University is being launched as a complete media school which will have an integrated Bachelors and Masters degree programme, short term skill programmes in partnership with the PMKVY scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India and industry partnerships with both National and Regional Media. The school will deliver UNESCO’s “Model Curriculum for Developing Countries and Emerging Democracies”.

We at Centurion, pride ourselves for having implemented the CBCS scheme of the UGC and all our courses are aligned to the National Skill Qualification Framework. The course will be unique in that students will be required to take only 25 to 35 % of the total course load as core courses in the classroom. The student will then be free to choose all other courses from open baskets in any discipline and in practice mode.

Apart from teaching our faculty also engage in outstanding and innovative research. We address crucial issues in the emerging digital world about knowledge construction, political agency, cultures and identities, and governing the media and communications environment. Our work is strongly comparative and transnational. Our engaged and critical approach is committed to strengthening interdisciplinary scholarship drawing on a number of social science disciplines and multi-method approaches to research.

We are in the process of forging formal collaborations with different departments and schools of media and communications from around the world and expect to have a vibrant campus with both faculty and students from across the globe.

About Department

The Bachelor in Pharmacy is a four year degree program that begins with a foundation of coursework in mathematics and the basic sciences chemistry, biology, and physics. This interdisciplinary program then progresses to advanced coursework in the pharmaceutical sciences, including aspects of drug design and synthesis, mechanisms of drug action, pharmacology and toxicology, dosage formulation, manufacturing, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. It also prepares students for professional or graduate studies in graduate education in pharmaceutical, medical, and basic sciences and post baccalaureate professional education in medicine, law, and business.

M. Pharm – Overview
Master of Pharmacy is a two-year postgraduate program in Pharmacy. The department has experienced and highly qualified faculty working towards improving the skills of PG students by involving them in training, industry oriented projects, exposing to workshops and guest lectures.

About Department

Designed to meet the growing need for mining engineers, this program offers advanced study with emphasis in either management-oriented or technically-oriented disciplines for professionals in mining, mine management or underground construction.

The technical track emphasizes applied geomechanics, advanced rock mechanics, rock slope stability, tunneling, advanced mine ventilation, advanced geostatistics, and mine planning.

The management track focuses on mining engineering management, mineral economics and finance, mining business management and general mining engineering.

Code Development Practice:

Computer Science department takes code writing as a core skill development requirement of the students and faculty. This is done through various innovative approaches like boot camps organised for the purpose, code development competitions and live projects.

As a part of the efforts the University is using many software developed by the students .
They include:

1. Open course ware for the tablets
2. Examination Management System of the university
3. Examination on Demand
4. Online Admission Portal

Building software for the industry:

“If a university is a repository for knowledge, then some of this knowledge should spill over to the neighboring community”, said Mohd Yunus.

The CSE department at Centurion University includes a Software Development organization within it, headed by an assistant professor, Sabyasachi Mohanty. The Software Development team has the objective of building software for the University. This goal is driven by the motive to keep our faculty and students aligned to software engineering principles while gaining first hand experience of the rigors of creating real world software. In the process, the software development team also ends up developing useful software for the University.

To aid our software engineering faculty in this, we have partnered with iCalibrator, a software development and training organization with expertise in building products and mentoring young software professionals.

Software developed by students and faculty go towards building Centurion’s intellectual property, and has the potential to benefit other academic institutions as well.

Doing projects together with industry:

Centurion University focuses on partnering with the industry and do projects together. Such projects enable Centurion’s faculty and students to have real world exposure, and sharpen their skills. It also allows industry to create software at low cost.
Centurion students are proud to participate with Mindtree Foundation, and contribute to their Urban Waste Management technology framework. Centurion faculty are participating in creating an examination management software together with iCalibrator. Apart from this software being used within Centurion University, it will also be licensed to other academic institutions.

Foster Parents who mentor you outside the classroom, on both technical and personal issues:

At Centurion University, every student is assigned a Foster Parent. Foster Parents represent the New Age Teacher, presenting themselves as mentor to the student, on all issues academic and otherwise.

Foster Parents undergo training as Mentors in a Mentoring workshop, and learn what they are expected to do as mentors, and what they are not expected to do. This training is designed and delivered by practitioner mentors from the industry and social organizations, and has unique content based on practical experiences.

In an age when the youth are confused with an abundance of choices and find little time from parents to help them navigate through their opportunities and constraints, the Foster Parent initiative is opening up a new relationship and new channel of communication with the student. This is aligned to Centurion’s principle of holistic learning for the student.

Programming Competitions:

Department of CSE organizes number of programming competitions through out the year to celebrate various occasions and to encourage students for programming practice. Some of the competitions are given as follows:
1. On the eve of Engineers’ Day, on 15th September, 2012, a C Programming contest was held. About 400 students participated in the contest, which shows the enthusiasm among students. Faculty members actively supported the whole program.

2. The Infosys Aspiration 2020 Programming contest held every year. More than 500 number of students participate in the contest. According to their choice of programming environment, students appeared for either in C, C++ or Java.

3. Students of the department participated in the TCS Code Vita contest.

4. A one day art exhibition cum contest was held on 12th March 2013 at JITM campus.

5. Since 2009 722 students from JITM have participated in IBM TGMC (The Great Mind Challenge) competition.
