Friends, as well as know that climate change poses a major new challenge for conservation for our bioresources, since the diversity and distribution ranges of species, have been proven to be affected by climate anomalies. Detecting the extent of protected species response to climate change, could help formulate flexible conservation strategies to overcome the changing climate.

Last but not the least it is now highly required to consider that the developing countries including India having huge bioresources could be utilized for production of value added bio-product for the sustainable development of a bio-based economy. This International Symposium threw light on new and recent research and development of effective strategies for sustainable utilization of bioresouces using modern tools and techniques to help in meeting this challenge. The conference addressed the utilization of bioresources in the prospective of therapeutics, biopesticides, biofuel, environmental protection, biotechnological intervention, role of ethnobiology in supporting clues for drug development. Several technical session during the conference focused on the sustainable utilization of bioresources in different sectors such as Bioremediation for clean environment, Botanicals for post – harvest management of tuber, root and bulb crops, medico-botany of plants or plants parts used in rituals and sculpted on the monuments.

During these 3 days of the conference, we have had deep insightful deliberations and exchange of views on the different areas relating to the utilization and conservation of our Biological resources available in nature.

During the Valedictory function Prof. Biswal extended his thanks to the Chief-Guest Prof. Amarendra Narayan Mishra (Prof. Emeritus, and Former VC, Khalikote University); Prof. Prafulla Kumar Mohanty (Former Prof. Utkal University and VC, Khalikote University); Dr. Nabin Kumar Dhala, Chief Scientist, IMMT, CSIR and Prof. Dipankar Bhattacharya, Pro VC, Centurion University; Dr. Chinmay Kumar Pradhan, Head of the Dept. of Botany, Utkal University; Prof. Hemanta Kumar Patra, (Emeritus Prof., Dept. of Botany, Utkal University); Prof. Annaian Shanmugam;  Dr. Sagar Mishra (Dept. of Pharmacy, Utkal University), Dr. Rajkumar Joshi, (Head of the Dept. of Biotechnology, R. Genomics approaches towards the Improvement of pearl millet

SPEAKER

Dr. Harshraj Subhash Shinde

Post-doctoral researcher, Environmental Epigenetics and Genetics Group, College of Agriculture Food and Environment. University of Kentucky, Lexington. America

A better understanding of the effects of salinity on pearl millet and mechanisms stress tolerance are vital for breeding new salinity stress tolerant cultivars. Tolerant line ICMB 01222 had a higher growth rate. Total soluble sugar content was higher in the salinity stressed tolerant pearl millet susceptible line (1.6 time higher). Sugar metabolism related pathways were highly expressed in tolerant line than susceptible line.
