Product Development: Autonomous Electric Small Commercial Vehicle and Battery Management System

The project Focused on development of Electric vehicles controller design with Battery management system. The power train which is coming as the final product can utilize in different electric vehicle with higher speed and higher control modules.

Product Development: Sanitary Napkin Incinerator

Why Sanitary napkin Incinerator?

  • Pollution
  • Sanitary Blockages
  • Labour problem
  • Water pollution
  • Spread of infections and diseases
  • Bad smell
  • Disposing attracts use of plastic bags
  • Indian government’s guidelines for disposal of sanitary napkins

Indian government’s CPCB has set guidelines for disposal of sanitary waste and has specified role of all stake holders of the product to dispose them. It has been recommended to follow the methods to dispose sanitary napkins enlisted below:

  1. Low-cost incinerator – Rural setup – Sanitary napkins preferably without SAP.
  2. Electric incinerator – Rural/Urban setup
  3. High temperature incinerator for bio-waste – Urban setup with central collection and disposal with other bio waste.
  4. Deep burial – Rural setup – Compostable materials only
  5. Composting – Compost site – Compostable materials only
  6. Pit burning – Rural area

According to the guidelines, the waste can be disposed by either incinerating (central incinerating units for urban or low-cost incinerating units for rural) or disposing in landfills. Both of these ways are easily doable but need to be implemented effectively on every level systematically. The required infrastructure and facilities should be made more accessible especially on rural fronts.

Ongoing Patent Work: Alternative regenerative technology to charge the battery while moving

Because of air pollution, electric vehicles will play a significant role in the automotive industry by 2022. The electric vehicle's power is supplied by batteries, which enable the vehicle to move. These batteries are only designed for a limited amount of electricity, so a battery-powered vehicle can only be used for short trips.

The piezoelectric units generate a periodic voltage with a speed-dependent frequency as a result of this. The energy produced can be used as auxiliary power to extend the battery's life.

Ongoing Patent Work: Tamper proof Meter System

Tamper proof meter has magnetic shielding to provide optimum resistance to surge and provides LED indication for current reversal tampering as well as phase availability. Low power consuming meter comes with flame retardant, durable polycarbonate enclosure that provides high resistance to UV and high impact.

This application note discusses the vulnerabilities, challenges, and techniques to prevent tampering of an energy meter by using the Arduino microcontroller.

AICTE approved National Conference:

Department Electrical Engineering is going to Conduct a national conference on “Repair and Maintenance of Distribution Transformer” on August 2021.

Themes:

The conference will be focused on different operation and maintenance of Transformer with IOT enabled system to get better militance of it.

Infrastructure

Concrete Technology Lab
Faculty-in-charge: Prof. Deepak Kumar Sahoo
Instructor-in-charge: Ms. Subhalipsa Das

The objective of concrete laboratory is to determine the physical properties of building construction materials like cement, fine and coarse aggregate, steel, wood, and strength characteristics of cement mortar, plain cement concrete and reinforced cement concrete. The tests include determination of specific gravity, fineness, normal consistency, setting times, workability and soundness of cement, fineness modulus of fine and coarse aggregate, strength of cement mortar, cement concrete and bricks, tensile test on steel rods, bending and flexural strength on concrete, bending test on wood, and nondestructive test on concrete.

The students will be able to infer the suitability of these materials for construction. They can design the mix-concrete, make the specimens and test the same for the compressive strength for comparison with design strength. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the course building materials.

Transportation Engineering Lab
Faculty-in-charge: Dr. Jyoti Prakash Giri
Instructor-in-charge: Ms. Subhalipsa Das

The objective of Transportation Engineering. laboratory is to determine some of the properties of coarse aggregates and bitumen. Experiments include tests for impact, abrasion, attrition test and crushing strength for coarse aggregate and tests for penetration, ductility, viscosity, softening point and flash and fire point for bitumen. The students will be able to infer the suitability of these materials for construction of road. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the course transportation engineering.

Geotechnology Lab

Faculty-in-charge: Dr. Saine Sikta Dash
Instructor-in-charge: Ms. Subhalipsa Das

The objective of Soil mechanics and Geotechnology laboratory is to determine the physical and engineering properties of soil which are required for suitable design of foundations for any structure. Physical properties include specific gravity, moisture content, density and consistency limits namely, liquid, plastic and shrinkage limits of soil. The engineering properties include permeability, consolidation, compressibility, shear strength and bearing capacity of soil. By evaluating the properties of soil in the laboratory, students will be able to relate the concepts studied in the relevant theory course. Also students can utilize the knowledge of both theory and practical in the field application to real problems. In this laboratory both laboratory and in-situ experiments can be conducted. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the course Geotechnical Engineering.

Surveying Lab

Faculty-in-charge: Dr. Kamal Kumar Barik
Instructor-in-charge: Mr. Sai Sheshadev Dash

The objective of surveying laboratory is not only to change in survey techniques but also it is a holistic approach to encompass both plane table and Hi-tech survey cognitive skills for any surveyor. Surveying is an outcome based approach as per National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and It is mandated to learn Surveying, Map, Preparation, and Verification work using modern technologies viz. use of Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS), Electronic Total Stations (ETS), Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Photogrammetry and GIS Software based map preparation including Digital Elevation Models. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the course Advance surveying as well as Aerial Surveying and Remote Sensing Application Domain.
